Macmillan – the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Posted on 27 September 2014 by

I attended three Macmillan coffee mornings this year as a photographer. It was wonderful to meet so many different communities all supporting this important charity in their own way. I also “had to” eat an almost unreasonable amount of cake. The things we do…

Macmillan is a charity very close to my heart. I lost my mum to cancer in 2011 and in the months leading up to her death she received outstanding care from the Macmillan ward in Christchurch hospital. My mum hated being in hospital but this wasn’t the case with the Macmillan ward (although this may have had just a little to do with the brandy trolley).

Macmillan do so much for so many different people, that their need for support is matched by a strong will from the public to provide that support. Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the most high profile events they are involved in nationally, with people up and down the country organising events at home, at work and in the community. One of the most impressive Macmillan coffee mornings I went to this year was at Bitterne Conservative club, where the local community had come out in force to support the cause. There were cakes, coffees, raffles, jumble sales… and around it all, a community of passionate people doing their bit for something that means a lot to them. It was a truly inspirational thing to see.
